Patch Notes & Changelog
Moon Sweepers launched on October 23, 2026 and received two patches in its first two days. This page reproduces what DragDrop Games published on Steam, grouped by version. Everything below comes from the official notes.
Current Version
Published October 25, 2026
Steam, Windows PC
v1.0.3 (Oct 24) and v1.0.4 (Oct 25)
1.0.4 saves cannot open in older builds
The developers described v1.0.4 as addressing one of their highest priorities and said further work continues on crashes, production, automation reliability, progression balance and quality-of-life improvements. Bugs should be reported in the official Discord so the two-person team can act on them quickly.
Update 1.0.4 — October 25, 2026
The headline change is the J.O.O.N.A.S. cleaning robot rework. Before this patch, many robots stopped working when players walked away, which undercut the whole automation pay-off. DragDrop Games also added new suit gear, rebuilt the Moon map, and cut save times dramatically.
New features
- Night Vision Goggles — a new $350 suit upgrade. Press N to cycle helmet lamp → goggles → off. The developers describe nights as looking "like daytime without shadows," and the goggles are visible on your astronaut.
- Improved Moon Map — right-click to set waypoints, focus the camera or teleport. All robots now appear on the map with their current activity, and each robot type can be toggled on or off.
- Teleport Panel — view and teleport between the stations you have discovered.
- Suit HUD icons — new indicators beside the dust gauge for lamp/goggles, jetpack boosts and gravity boots.
- Helmet lamp upgrades — moved to the supply wall.
- Capsule Catcher — the glass now shows the collected dust, and capacity is increased to 100 kg.
J.O.O.N.A.S. improvements
- No more dock trips — each unit cleans a sector and launches capsules to the nearest catcher from wherever it is, then moves on to the next sector.
- 2x faster cleaning — it cleans one hex at a time from the outside in until that hex is 100% done, cutting circling and idle time.
- Smarter navigation — finds its way around buildings and skips hexes it cannot reach.
- Always working — keeps cleaning even when no players are nearby. This was the single most requested fix.
- Improved bin indicator — the gauge flashes red when full, and looking at J.O.O.N.A.S. opens its information panel.
- Sector tracking — shows which sector J.O.O.N.A.S. is currently cleaning.
Saving & backups
- Much faster saving — saving large, heavily cleaned bases now takes "a fraction of a second instead of up to half a minute."
- Faster quitting — quitting to the desktop or returning to the main menu no longer leaves you waiting on "Saving your progress…".
- Automatic backups — each save slot keeps up to 5 full backups of your world, taken one minute into every session and then every 30 minutes. They are stored outside Steam Cloud at `C:\Users\[user-name]\AppData\LocalLow\DragDropGames\MoonSweepers\Backups`.
- Automatic repair — if a save or part of it is damaged, the game restores it from your backups when the world loads and tells you it happened.
- Crash recovery — after a crash, the game checks your save files on the next start and repairs any that were damaged.
Multiplayer
- Ground synchronization reworked — everyone now sees the same cleaned ground, including robot trails and manual cleaning. No more dust reappearing.
- Shared belt building — any crewmate can place splitters and mergers on belts built by other players.
- Improved mergers — mergers now alternate between their inputs.
Bug fixes & performance
- Fixed all machines pausing with "Could not pack a capsule" even with power and materials available.
- Fixed players falling through the Moon, including after teleporting between stations.
- Fixed foundations not being placeable next to ramps.
- Fixed machines failing to build when snapped side by side.
- Fixed the map not showing full section payments, including the Region Bounty.
- Fixed duplicate chess pieces appearing at stations.
- Fixed overlapping key hints near vehicles.
- Fixed freezing when switching tools while many robots are working.
- Fixed capsules falling beneath foundations after removing belts.
- Fixed a J.O.O.N.A.S. error when re-planning the middle of a hex.
- Steam Deck / Linux — fixed startup issues with older Proton versions.
- Windows / AMD — DirectX 11 is now the default to prevent AMD GPU crashes. To use DirectX 12, add `-force-d3d12` to your Steam launch options.
The publisher flags one breaking change: saves made in 1.0.4 cannot be opened in older versions of the game. Finish any co-op session everyone intends to revisit on the old build before updating.
Update 1.0.3 — October 24, 2026
The first post-launch patch arrived the day after release, alongside a message from the two-person team thanking players and apologising for a rough launch state. It changed how co-op progression works in a way that still confuses returning crews.
- Upgrades now benefit the whole crew — the entire crew uses the host's upgrade matrix. An upgrade bought by any member applies to everyone. Existing saves keep the highest upgrade level any crew member had purchased.
- Host player management — hosts can kick, ban and unban players from ESC → Your Crew. A ban prevents that player rejoining that particular save.
- Garages handle your fleet — each garage can recall, store and upgrade the vehicles you own, and no longer offers an already-acquired vehicle for purchase. Demolishing a garage no longer deletes its vehicles; they move to another garage or wait until the next one is built.
- More flexible placement — splitters and mergers snap directly together port to port, and machines can span multiple foundations, letting pressure chambers, stone presses and garages sit on square foundations.
- Honest payment — payment at the drop-off point now matches the amount on its screen, and dust or stone delivered by conveyor is paid when it arrives.
- World loading — worlds that appeared corrupted even though their saves were intact can load again.
- Save protection — damaged saves are repaired automatically during loading from a backup copy or recent snapshot, with a message when it happens. A check also runs before each save replaces the previous one.
- Performance — the developers report up to around 20% higher frame rates in their own tests, particularly on large bases. Faster teleportation between stations, less stuttering as terrain loads, and terrain beyond the lunar horizon is no longer drawn.
- Version matching — every crew member needs v1.0.3 to play together.
The roughly 20% frame rate figure is the developer's own measurement. They did not publish test hardware or methodology, so treat it as a direction rather than a number your own PC will hit.
Before You Update
- Make sure everyone in your crew updates — mismatched versions block you from joining each other's sessions.
- Know that progression is shared from the host's save; join the right session before expecting your upgrades.
- Point backups at a safe location — automatic backups live outside Steam Cloud in AppData\LocalLow\DragDropGames\MoonSweepers\Backups, so Steam will not restore them for you on a new machine.
- If you are on an AMD GPU, the game now defaults to DirectX 11; add `-force-d3d12` to your Steam launch options only if you specifically want DirectX 12.
- Report bugs in the official Discord — the developers named it as their preferred channel.
