Co-op & Crew
Moon Sweepers supports online co-op for up to 16 players, plus a full single-player mode. Since v1.0.3 progression is shared across the crew, which changes how you plan spending — here is everything that matters before you start a lobby.
Lobby Sizes
You can play entirely solo, or open an online co-op lobby for up to 16 players. Everyone shares the same Moon and the same cleanup goal — whether they actually help is, as the developers put it, another matter.

Upgrades Are Shared Crew-Wide
Since v1.0.3, the entire crew uses the host's upgrade matrix. An upgrade purchased by any crew member applies to everyone, which makes every purchase a group decision rather than a personal one.
- Buy an upgrade anywhere in the crew and everyone gets the benefit immediately.
- Existing saves keep the highest upgrade level any crew member had already purchased — nobody loses ground when the change applies.
- Because spending is pooled, agree on what the crew buys next instead of letting one person quietly decide.
- Joining someone else's save means joining their progression state, not bringing your own.
The upgrade-and-spending role matters more than it used to. Before v1.0.3 upgrades were per-player, so much advice written in launch week is now wrong. If you are reading older tips elsewhere, check whether they predate October 24, 2026.
Host Controls
Hosts gained moderation tools in v1.0.3. Players can be kicked, banned and unbanned from ESC → Your Crew.
- Kick removes the player from the current session.
- Ban prevents the affected player from rejoining that particular save.
- Unban restores access to that save.
Dividing the Work
There is enough dust for everyone, but a 16-person free-for-all gets messy fast. Useful patterns:
- Split the map into sectors and assign one (or a pair) per zone.
- Designate one person to run logistics — depots, shipments, and agreeing group spending.
- Place each crew's depot near their assigned sector to cut dead travel.
- Agree on a "clean this region, then regroup" cadence instead of scattering.
Shared Ground & Shared Belts
v1.0.4 fixed two problems that made joint building frustrating. Ground synchronization was reworked, so everyone sees the same cleaned ground — including robot trails and manual cleaning — and dust no longer reappears after a teammate has swept it. Shared belt building now lets any crewmate place splitters and mergers on belts built by other players, and mergers alternate between their inputs instead of favouring one.
In practice this means one person can act as the dedicated factory builder for the whole crew, and nobody's sweeping will silently undo anyone else's.
Version Matching
Every crew member must be on the same game version to play together — this has been enforced since v1.0.3 and this game patches quickly (two updates in its first two days). After any update, make sure everyone has updated before trying to join. Separately, saves made in 1.0.4 cannot be opened in older versions, so the whole crew should stay current together.
Tips for a Smooth Crew
- Assign zones up front so nobody sweeps the same patch twice.
- Agree who is allowed to spend — upgrades now affect everyone.
- Communicate depot placement; a badly placed depot wastes everyone's trips.
- Don't all cluster on one spot; spread out to cover ground.
- Update every client together before a session — mismatched versions block joining.
