System Requirements
Official minimum and recommended PC requirements, taken directly from the Steam store page, together with what changed technically since launch.
System Requirements
Both tiers require a 64-bit processor and operating system and a broadband internet connection (online co-op needs it; the game itself is light).
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 (64-bit) | Windows 11 (64-bit) |
| CPU | Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | Intel Core i5-10400 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600 |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| GPU | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 / AMD Radeon RX 570 | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super / AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT |
| DirectX | Version 11 | Version 12 |
| Storage | 2 GB available space | 4 GB available space |
DirectX 11 Is Now the Default
This is the one setting most players need to know about. In v1.0.4, DragDrop Games made DirectX 11 the default rendering backend specifically to prevent crashes on AMD graphics cards.
- The game now starts in DirectX 11 unless you override it.
- If you want DirectX 12, add `-force-d3d12` to your Steam launch options for Moon Sweepers.
- If you hit crashes on an AMD GPU and are forcing DX12, removing that launch option is the first thing to try.
The store page still lists DirectX 12 as the recommended tier. That listing predates the v1.0.4 change and reflects an ideal configuration, not what the game launches with by default.
Install Size
Third-party store tracker reading of the Steam manifest
After installation
Steam exclusive; no announced console or Mac version
The store page's own storage row asks for 2 GB (minimum) and 4 GB (recommended) of available space, which is headroom rather than the actual install. The figures above are what the current Steam depot actually delivers, so expect roughly a gigabyte.
Steam Deck & Linux
Moon Sweepers ships for Windows only, with no native Linux or Mac build announced. It does run on Steam Deck and Linux through Proton, and v1.0.4 fixed startup problems that occurred with older Proton versions.
Valve has not published an official Steam Deck compatibility rating for the game. Treat it as untested officially but improved since launch — if it fails to start on Deck, update to a recent Proton version first.
Post-launch Performance
The two launch-week patches both targeted performance. v1.0.3 brought what the developers report as up to around 20% higher frame rates on large bases in their own tests, faster teleportation between stations, and stopped drawing terrain beyond the lunar horizon. v1.0.4 cut save times on large bases from up to half a minute to a fraction of a second.
The 20% figure comes from the developer's own testing without published hardware or methodology, so treat it as a direction rather than a guarantee for your machine. Savings on large saves are the most reliably noticeable change.
